Caliente!

caliente! logo Caliente! is a filesystem-based integration application that works with both EMC Documentum 6 as well as SharePoint. It can be used to implement solutions such as automated import of content and metadata from designated folders. Such a solution facilitates adoption by large number of users with little training, since the end users only deal with their familiar environment - files and folders in the desktop environment.

Caliente! works by designating certain folders on the filesystem as hot folders and monitors their contents (files) for changes. Each hot folder is associated with a sequence of actions that are performed on the contents when new or modified files are detected in the hot folders. These actions can perform file-based tasks such as copying, deleting, zipping, emailing etc. as well as tasks such as importing a file into Documentum and/or SharePoint.

Each integration need is unique in some way, and Caliente! provides a framework which facilitates extension and customization to meet those specific needs. For example, a scanning and OCR (Optical Character Recognition) tool can be used with Caliente! to capture images and metadata and then automatically store them into a Documentum or SharePoint repository. Custom actions can also be created and configured to participate in the integration process.

Caliente! is a multi-platform solution supported by DFC 5.3, which include several flavors of Linux, Unix, and MS Windows.

Example Scenario

Distributed Image Archival into Documentum

An organization with multiple offices and departments deploys a central Documentum repository. This repository is intended to archive scanned documents obtained from various locations across the organization. A server is configured with a shared public folder and this folder is designated as a hot folder.

Hot Folder

Users performing the scanning are trained to place scanned files into the hot folder using drag-and-drop from their Windows desktops. No Documentum training is required for these contributors since they are not the consumers of these files. As these users drop scanned documents in the hot folder, Caliente! moves these files into the Documentum repository, behind the scenes.

Documentum end-users begin to see new content in the repository as soon as the scanned documents are placed into the repository.
